Whirlwinds Academy enjoy success at English Championships in Sheffield

Whirlwinds Academy Trampoline & DMT Club are celebrating after Hannah Semple and Jessica Vickery became English Champions.

Leading the way on the Saturday was Semple on the first day of the national competition. She enjoyed a tremendous finals debut winning the 11-12 year-old silver double mini trampoline (DMT) title.

The following day saw Vickery achieve a personal best to win the English 9-10 gold mixed DMT title. Despite being the only girl to have qualified for the finals she brushed off the other qualifiers to take the title.

There were other strong performances over the weekend with medals for Lilly Lucking (Age 9-10 Silver DMT – 2nd place) and Liam Isaac (Senior Men Gold DMT – 3rd place).

In addition the rest of the team that qualified for the finals produced fine performances, some just missing out on a podium. The team included Jas Uminski, Charlotte Vickery, Bethany Whitehead, Louis Whittome, Kayra Mete, Alice Duder, Ella Ray and Lauren Giles.

The Whirlwinds Academy team are now in preparation for the forthcoming British Championships, which will take place in Birmingham over the weekend of September 28-29.

From 9am – 9pm Flip Out Somerset cover the bouncing. From 9pm – 9am we will take over and complete the 24 hours! Food and refreshments will be provided by Flip Out Somerset.

Whirlwinds Opening in Wellington - Open Day 7 January 2018
We are excited to be opening in our new venue next to Flip Out in The Chelston Business Park, Wellington Somerset.

To celebrate we have an Open Day where everyone is welcome to come along and see the club in action but also join in if you are looking to take up this exciting sport.

Whirlwinds Friendly Competition 1 October 2017
We successfully held our first friendly trampoline and DMT competition at Wellsprings Leisure Centre in Taunton. On trampolining in the region of 190 male and female competitors embraced the friendly at a variety of levels including Schools, NDP Levels 1 to 5 and Open. In addition to trampolining the DMT run was put to good use where 35 competitors took part in NDP Levels 1 to 6 and Open. To end the day the Synchro teams took to the trampolines to show off their synchro skills.

We’d like to thank all the clubs who participated including Alton, Air Extreme, Alchemy, Blandford Forum, Griffin, Honiton Hurricanes, OCRA Flyers, Spire Heights and Zero Gravity.

In a relaxed environment the great value A Star leotards were flying off the rails nearly as quickly as the chocolate tombola stall which was cleared by lunchtime.

All in all a great event that was enjoyed by all.

Young Coach of the Year
Congratulations to Jacob Turner for winning The Somerset Sports Awards 2017 “Young Coach of the Year”. Really deserved, all your hard work paid off. Keep it up!!

Friday 16th June saw 150 people descend on Taunton Rugby Club for the annual Somerset Sports Awards. The awards, organised by Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership (SASP) are an opportunity to celebrate the achievements and successes of the inspirational volunteers, great coaches, outstanding athletes and quality clubs from across the County.
This year saw over 100 entries for awards across 14 categories, all of which highlighted the fantastic work going on in the County.
Jane Knowles said; ‘as a County Sports Partnership we feel it is important to recognise the tireless efforts of our fantastic workforce. Volunteers are the backbone of community sport and we know that without them sport cannot function. Great coaches not only support athletes to realise their potential but help to create an important lifelong love of sport and physical activity’.

New Website Live - April Fool??
I hope it’s not an April Fool!!! Our new website has gone live today. It’s work in progress and will be developed over the coming months. If you have any thoughts or ideas on information that might be useful let us know.
DMT Squad train at Somerset College 22 March 2017
The DMT’s were finally in action in the Sports Hall at Somerset College. With 3 DMT’s there is excellent coaching time for the squad members.

The squads train on Wednesday between 5pm and 8pm and on Saturdays between 9am and midday. On Wednesday all 3 DMT’s are out with NDP, Nationals and Elites in action. On Saturday there are 2 DMT’s out where the NDP and Nationals are combined with the Elites on the other.

Whatever setup you can guarantee a full session of training where we can develop skills and passes for the next competitions.

If you know anyone who wants to take up training at DMT they are welcome for a trial. Just let us know.
